Road Improvement Project Begins Near Olathe East
Feb. 21, 2012 ~ The widening of 127th Street between Black Bob and Pflumm roads has begun but is not expected to affect traffic to and from Olathe East High School, 14545 W. 127th St., Olathe. The first stage of the project involves relocating utility lines and power lines and trimming or removing some trees on district property.
The affected trees are on a utility easement, according to Director of Operations and Facilities Tom Lillis, and had to be trimmed or removed for Kansas City Power & Light to relocate its power poles.
Major street construction will take place in 2013 and 2014, according to a City of Olathe website, www.improve127th.com. The City of Olathe will replace these trees once the street construction is complete.
Once complete, the divided, four-lane 127th Street will have even more trees than before the expansion began, Lillis said.
