Dramatic Student Projects Celebrate Diversity

Jan. 17, 2012 ~ Images of Martin Luther King Jr., the Statue of Liberty, and a "white only" lunch counter are among the winners of the visual arts category in the Celebrate Diversity 2012 contest sponsored by the Olathe Public Schools and City of Olathe's Human Relations Commission. This year's theme was "The Courage to Believe."

In addition to the visual arts, the contest included essays and multi-media projects from more than 2,900 students in sixth through 12th grades. They were competing for prizes ranging from $75 to $300, as well as a Best of Show prize of $500. Financial partners for this year's event were MidAmerica Nazarene University and the Olathe Public Schools Foundation.

The winners were announced at the city's Martin Luther King Jr. Noonday Celebration at Prairie Trail Middle School on Jan. 13, and recognized again at the Community Prayer Breakfast on Jan. 16.
