Art Workshop Debuts with 130 Students

Dec. 15, 2011 ~ When Olathe Northwest High School art instructors planned their first annual Young Ravens Art Experience, they tentatively hoped for 40 or 50 students. Their goal was tripled when nearly 130 students enrolled in the Saturday morning session.

"What a great problem to have," said Lisa Hirsch, who teaches sculpture and jewelry at Northwest. "We couldn't have done this without the support of our building staff, the 35 high school volunteers and our feeder school art teachers who helped promote the activity to their students."

Ceramics teacher Tim Barnes, drawing/painting instructor Abbey Graham, photography teacher Carol Ann Rau and Hirsch organized the event so participants would spend 40 minutes in each of their four art rooms.

"We're hoping to make this an annual or semi-annual event," Hirsch said after the successful debut in early December. "We had a blast!"
